Hi Alabama Tennis Friends!

Here’s your last Summer Update from Alba Cortina Pou.  Alba is a Senior from Blanes, Spain (very close to Barcelona Spain).

Hey everyone!

I am Alba Cortina, a senior from the Alabama Women’s Tennis Team. Here is my update of the summer:

Once we finished our Season, I stayed in Tuscaloosa and practiced with Andie because she was getting ready to play the NCAA Singles Tournament. Since school was over, we had time to do some fun activities like going to the pool, picnic in the River Walk and trying some of the great restaurants in Tuscaloosa! I also went to Atlanta for the first time and had a blast at the Aquarium and exploring the Ponce City Market.

At the end of May, I began an internship with the City of Tuscaloosa on the Communications Department. I also started taking a Marketing Research class while training and working out with Moka as well. Moka and I stayed during Summer I and it was great to have her to suffer with me while running stadiums with Ashton 🙂 It was a very busy month but we also had such a fun time. We went to the new bowling place, watched Netflix movies, and did one of Moka’s favorite things, we biked a lot!!  We also took our bikes to the River Walk on a Sunday and had brunch there with the river views. In addition, there was an ITA Tournament in Bama and it was a good opportunity to play some matches and get better. I got to play 9 matches in 3 days and I was happy to win the Singles tournament and made it to the finals with Mokita!

When I finished Summer I, I went on a vacation to Portland, Seattle and Vancouver. My highlights of the trip were visiting the Nike World Headquarters, hiking on beautiful mountains and seeing the Seattle Skyline from a cruise. I also loved  watching the 4th of July fireworks show in Seattle and walking through a suspended bridge in Vancouver!

Right after that, I finally went back home to see my family. For the past month, I have been able to enjoy some time with my family and friends while also practicing on clay courts. I also went on a 3-days trip to Porto, Portugal with my parents and my sister. I was so amazed on how beautiful the city is and all the history behind it. I’ve also been playing some tournaments in Spain. I won the tournament last week and I lost in semifinals this week. It has been a great learning experience to work on my game, get some rhythm and get ready for the upcoming Fall!

Now I am enjoying my last days at home and eating some of my favorite Spanish dishes (like “Paella”) before I head back to Tuscaloosa. I can’t wait to be back with the team and see you all very soon!

Roll Tide,

Alba Cortina Pou
