Let's Go Play

Let’s Go Play!

The Tuscaloosa Tennis Association worked with University of Alabama Culverhouse College of Commerce graduate students to develop a 5-10 year strategic plan.   A key component to building our strategic plan was the feedback we received from our members.

We would like to share with you an outline of the plan and would welcome any feedback you have to further promote tennis in Tuscaloosa.

Our Vision:

TTA will:

  • Be a  key focal point for all tennis activities in Tuscaloosa
  • Offer its members information on all tennis related activities in Tuscaloosa via social media, its website, text and email
  • Offer creative and new ways for tennis players (existing, new to the game and new to Tuscaloosa) to connect.
  • Provide its members with opportunities to play tennis via mixers, socials and tournaments.
  • Give back to the local community by providing learning and playing opportunities for all ages, contributing to the expansion of facilities within Tuscaloosa, hosting, sponsoring and supporting tournaments, and promoting the game of tennis.
  • Actively support and promote tennis at all public schools.
  • Grow its membership to 500 within 5 years and to 1000 within 10 years.
  • Build its presence to be a premier community tennis organization in the southeast.

There are 4 areas of focus in our strategic plan to support our vision:

Give Back to the Community
Activities that we will include in this area are:  summer camps, after school programs, inclusive play opportunities, beginning tennis/clinics for at risk children, being a sponsor for local tennis tournaments that support local charities, participate in Tuscaloosa’s Tinsel Trail.     Longer term we will look to provide tennis scholarships, increase the number of schools with after school programs, establish leagues that promote inclusive play and  hold mixers benefiting local charities.

Provide Information to Members and be More Visible
Activities in this area include:  a new website, weekly emails, using social media, visibility at tournaments, banners at local clubs, monthly blog/newsletter and our annual meeting/social event  Meet, Great and Eat.

Longer term we will develop a mobile app, tailor communications to members areas of interest, expand our social media followers.

Connecting Players and Providing Opportunities to Play

Activities in this area include:  develop a member database with the ability to opt in to find people to play; mixers for our members, new TTA league play, sponsor city wide tournaments, grow junior tennis, and provide volunteer opportunities for members and students.

Grow Membership and membership appreciation
Activities in this area include:  ability to join online with automatic renewal and multiyear memberships, complimentary one year membership to USTA Apprentice graduates; complimentary membership to teaching pros at local clubs and tennis team coaches.  Longer term we will look at new markets for members including local universities faculty, staff and students, tiered membership levels based on giving levels tied to activities, and explore corporate memberships.  Member appreciation mixers, thanking our members, patron and super patrons.

What’s Next

We have already started implementing our strategic plan.   We have been sending our weekly information via email, we have Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.   We recently had a presence at Neptune Cup and Pritchett- Moore tournaments.    We surveyed participants and spectators to continue to get information on areas of interest.      We also have just launched our new website.  Please visit us at www.tuscaloosatennis.com.     We would appreciate any feedback that you have.

As part of our strategic plan we also have a new tagline:

Let’s Go Play!

#TTALetsGoPlay!

We thank you for your membership and your generous support of TTA.  We would not be able to fulfill our mission without you.
