It is with great excitement that we announce the inaugural Emily Baker Women’s Classic tennis tournament, to be held on March 3rd at Center Court Tuscaloosa. As an annual Tuscaloosa Tennis Association tournament, the proceeds of this event will go to the newly established Emily Baker Scholarship and Youth Tennis Fund.
Reflecting the passion that Emily Baker had for both youth and the sport in general, this scholarship will be used to advance the tennis interests and skills of Tuscaloosa’s youth. Specifically, we will be raising awareness and encouragement of tennis programs offered in elementary schools via our USTA Rocket Tennis Program, as well as awarding scholarships to individuals showing promise to build and improve skills. In 2016, 99 elementary school children in four schools completed the Rocket Tennis Program with the help of TTA and it’s volunteers.
In addition to entry fees for The Classic, we are offering the ability to contribute to the Emily Baker Scholarship and Youth Tennis Fund by becoming a patron. We will have Patrons at the Bronze $250, Silver $500, and Gold $1,000 levels. All Patrons will be recognized during the tournament, as well as on TTA’s website. Additionally, Patrons are invited to the Player’s Party, to be held at CCT on Thursday, March 3rd at 6:00 for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and celebrations in honor of Emily Baker.
Emily has been a driving force in growing the sport of tennis in Tuscaloosa. This TTA’s way to honor her and continue her dream of building and growing tennis in Tuscaloosa.
